Filing a claim? We've got you.
From our side of the shop, here's how the repair and claims process generally unfolds — and how we work alongside customers and their insurers at each stage.
Not sure what "full coverage" actually means? Collision, comprehensive, and liability are three different things — and which one you have determines how your claim works.
Learn the differenceFlorida law guarantees your right to choose your own repair shop — your insurer cannot force you to use theirs.

works — from our end.

Make Sure Everyone Is Safe
Before anything else — check for injuries. Call 911 if anyone is hurt. Move vehicles out of traffic if it's safe to do so. Your safety and the safety of others comes before any paperwork.
Even if you feel fine, get checked out. Some injuries don't show symptoms right away.
Document the Scene
Take photos of all vehicles involved, the surrounding area, road conditions, license plates, and any visible damage. Capture wide shots and close-ups. Collect the other driver's name, phone number, insurance company, and policy number.
The more photos the better. Courts and insurers both rely heavily on scene documentation.
File Your Insurance Claim
Contact your insurance company to report the accident and open a claim — this is something you must initiate yourself. You'll receive a claim number; keep it handy. Whether you're filing with your own insurer (first-party) or the at-fault driver's insurer (third-party) matters: with a third-party claim you typically owe no deductible, while a first-party claim usually requires you to pay your deductible first.
File promptly — Florida's statute of limitations for property damage claims is 2 years, but delays can complicate coverage and slow down your repair. Don't wait.
Know Your Right to Choose Your Shop
This is critical: Florida law gives YOU the right to choose which repair shop fixes your vehicle. Your insurance company may suggest a "preferred" shop — you are not required to use it. Choosing Williams Paint and Body Shop means choosing an I-CAR Gold Class certified facility with 800+ five-star reviews.
If your insurer pressures you to use a specific shop, remind them it's your legal right under Florida law to choose your own repair facility.
Get Your Free Estimate — or Let Us Handle the Supplement
If you don't yet have an active claim, bring your vehicle in for a free written estimate — no appointment needed. However, if your insurance company has already provided a photo or desk estimate, we do not write a competing secondary estimate. Instead, we check your vehicle in, follow your insurer's established process, and submit a supplement estimate after inspection to capture any damage the photos missed.
Photo estimates made by adjusters who haven't seen the vehicle often miss hidden or structural damage. The supplement process exists specifically for this — and we handle it for you.
We Communicate Directly With Your Adjuster
Once you choose Williams as your repair facility, we take over the insurance communication. We submit documentation, negotiate the scope of repairs, and file supplements when teardown reveals damage not visible in the initial estimate. You never have to play middleman between us and your insurer.
You never have to play phone tag between us and your insurer. We handle it.
Authorize the Repair
After your claim is approved and the repair plan is finalized, you'll sign a repair authorization. This document gives us permission to complete the work. If your vehicle was towed in or you couldn't sign in person, you can sign our digital authorization online.
Repairs Begin
Your vehicle enters our 10-step repair process — from teardown and parts ordering through body repair, paint, reassembly, and a final quality check. Every repair is performed by I-CAR Gold Class certified technicians using OEM-spec procedures. You can track your repair status online at any time.
Use the Track Repair button in our navigation to check your status in real time.
Pick Up Your Vehicle
When your vehicle is ready, we'll notify you. We perform a final wash and detail before delivery. You'll review the completed repairs with us, and we'll walk you through everything that was done. Pay your deductible — we handle everything else with the insurer.
Our repairs come with a lifetime warranty on workmanship. If anything isn't right, we make it right.
What type of damage
may be covered?
In our experience, many drivers don't realize hail, vandalism, flooding, and glass damage can fall under different coverage types than a standard collision. Here's how we generally see these repairs covered — always confirm with your insurer.
Collision Coverage
Accident with another vehicle or object
Covers your vehicle regardless of who is at fault. You file with your own insurer and pay your deductible.
Comprehensive Coverage
Hail, flooding, vandalism, fire, theft, animal strikes, falling objects
Covers non-collision damage. Many Florida drivers underestimate how often hail and storm damage applies here.
Liability / Third-Party
The other driver caused the accident
You file against the at-fault driver's liability coverage. No deductible owed by you — but you must sign a release for damages to accept the settlement.
Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist
At-fault driver has no insurance or not enough
Your own UM/UIM coverage steps in when the other driver can't cover your damages. Florida has one of the highest rates of uninsured drivers in the country.
Windshield / Glass
Cracked or shattered glass from road debris, impact, or weather
If you carry comprehensive coverage, Florida law typically requires your insurer to waive the deductible on windshield replacement — meaning your windshield may cost you nothing out of pocket. This applies only if you have comprehensive coverage.

Repairs are generally expected to restore your vehicle to its pre-accident condition — not just a surface-level fix. Your policy details govern what's covered.
Depending on your policy, you may be entitled to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts. Always verify with your insurer what your policy allows.
If additional damage is discovered during repairs, a supplement can typically be submitted to your insurer — we handle the documentation and coordination.
Many policies include rental car coverage while your vehicle is being repaired — check your policy or ask your insurer what's included.
